Live Drive Review
Company: Live Drive
Service: Online Cloud Backup
Digital storage in general is in much greater demand than it used to be. With the proliferation of various forms of digital media, there has been a rise in the need for places to store all of that information. A number of solutions for this problem have arisen over the past couple of decades.
Various forms of portable media have been developed, and amazingly, they are often able to store the same amount of information it would have taken large collections of hard drives to store in years past. Still, in spite of the storage capacity of these various portable devices, they also have some pretty major weaknesses.
Cloud storage is a more recent concept which has been developed in order to combat those weaknesses. LiveDrive is one of the many could storage providers that have appeared in the marketplace, but we believe that the level of service they deliver sets them apart from a large number of their competitors. Over the next few minutes, we’re going to tell you some of the specific things about this company that we are especially impressed by. It’s true than any cloud storage provider is more secure than any mobile storage device, and that any of them enable you to access your information from virtually anywhere, but there are some things that make LiveDrive special, too, and we want to tell you all about them.
Features of LiveDrive
LiveDrive is one of the most innovative companies in the cloud based storage business. They have really put a lot of thought into coming up with cloud storage features which meet needs that similar companies have yet to even consider. Of course, that doesn’t mean they don’t deliver the basics well. Nothing could be further from the truth. In the midst of their culture of innovation, they are still able to provide the basic services you require in an efficient, economical way. In a world where dependability, affordability, and innovation don’t coexist very often, this company has managed to strike a very refreshing balance indeed.
There really aren’t many negative things about LiveDrive which we’ve been able to detect. We will mention a thing or two later in that regard, but first, as promised, let’s go over some specific reasons why we really like this company.
Unlimited Storage Space
We mentioned earlier that portable storage devices have some limitations. One of those limitations is the fact that there’s only so much information you can store on them. This limitation is quickly felt even more keenly by those needing to store movies, songs, and other exceedingly large files. Even some cloud based storage companies only allow you to purchase additional storage as needed. While they too are technically offering unlimited storage, what’s innovative about LiveDrive is the fact that they do so for a flat fee.
“The Briefcase” is one of our favorite features which LiveDrive has to offer. In a nutshell, this is like adding another drive to your computer. What’s more, that drive can be synced across multiple devices. What this means is that transferring files between your computer and your cloud storage space is as simple as clicking and dragging. It also means that if a user makes a change to a file in this drive on one of your synced devices, those changes will automatically be visible on your other synced devices as well.
One of the coolest things about LiveDrive is that if you have any photos stored there, you can share them on your Facebook and Flickr accounts directly, without having to download them to your computer first. You can interact with your other files directly as well. For example, you can stream your music and video files, and you can even edit your documents while they’re still online. Many online storage companies do not offer this much flexibility.
Another feature of LiveDrive is that they make it very easy for you to share your stored files with other users. As a matter of fact, they even offer three different levels of permission for your file sharing, as well as the ability to share files either publicly or privately with as little as one click.
Friendly Customer Service
There is a support ticket system which is staffed seven days a week with people that can assist you with any problem that you encounter while using LiveDrive’s service. In case you’d prefer not to wait, there is also an extensive knowledge base and set of FAQs at your disposal whenever you’d like to peruse them.
We alluded to this benefit of LiveDrive earlier, but we’d like to elaborate on it a bit more. If you’re only backing up one PC, you can do so on an unlimited basis for around eight bucks a month. They also offer a package that includes five PCs for two hundred fifty bucks a year, but that package does not include unlimited space. Still, at 5TB, it does include more space than most people will ever use.
There are only a couple of negative aspects of LiveDrive we’ve noticed. One of them is that they don’t offer any phone support. They don’t offer live chat support either, so if you have a question that isn’t answered by their FAQs or knowledge base, then you’re going to have to wait for a response. However, you usually don’t have to wait very long. Another drawback we’ve noticed is that old file versions are only kept within their system for up to thirty days. There are several other online hosting providers which keep older file versions longer.
As we mentioned before, LiveDrive is reasonably priced, innovative, and dependable. You really can’t ask for more than that in a cloud storage provider. The facts that they only keep older versions of your files for up to thirty days and do not offer phone support are, to us, far outweighed by their other features, especially their offering of unlimited storage for such a reasonable price.
